Democratic Nominee, Hillary Clinton, has made her stance on gun control perfectly clear and how relevant she feels it is to the war on terrorism. It is exactly as bad of an explanation as you would expect.
This was Clinton’s response when she was asked by the AARP Bulletin, “What would you do to address terrorism?”
Clinton responded to the question, stating that she has created a very comprehensive plan to fight terrorism. Her plan? To close gun shows and make it difficult for anyone to have access to their constitutional right to bear arms.
Well, these are legitimate fears. I believe that people are rightly concerned about violence. Terrorism is part of that violence, and we have to do the best job we can to keep America safe. So I’ve laid out a very comprehensive plan about taking on the terrorists, going after them where they operate, doing everything we can to take away their territories so they can’t mastermind attacks from afar. But we also have to go after them online because that is where they recruit, radicalize and direct attacks. And we need to do a better job of getting there early, rooting out people who are vulnerable and preventing that from happening.
She added: But I’m looking at violence broadly. … It’s also why I’ve advocated gun safety reform, like comprehensive background checks, closing the gun-show loophole, closing the online loophole—because, you know, it’s not only terrorists we need to be worried about. Terrorism is part of it, but gun violence kills 33,000 Americans a year. … We’ve got to get serious about stemming violence and terrorism in every way we can.
Because why would anyone feel the need to defend themselves against terrorists who keep coming into our country and attacking innocent people? Wouldn’t we want gun owners to be able to stop a terrorist attack? To stop any attack that they see happening against our citizens?
Clinton seemingly loves to exaggerate the number of gun violence incidents to suit her campaign needs. Clinton’s claim that 33,000 Americans were killed by gun violence last year is false. In actuality, Breitbart News reported that 66% of those deaths were suicides.
Here are the actual statistics. In 2013 the overall number of firearm-related deaths was approximately 32,888. But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows the number of reported deaths due to actual “gun violence” was 11,208. That is a 21,680 difference in what Clinton is claiming in her anti-gun campaign.
Clinton repeatedly adds the numbers of accidental deaths and homicides together and then throws in the firearm-related suicides to come up with her whopping 33,000 deaths. She then labels all of it “gun violence.”
