A terror suspect awaiting trial caught a beating from fellow inmates after his attempts to convert them to Islam failed.
Carlos Larmond is an avowed jihadi awaiting trial on terrorism charges that carry a penalty of life in prison.
During his time in jail, Larmond has become well known for aggressively trying to recruit other inmates to Islam.
He took his threats a little too far and paid the price, getting attacked by multiple inmates while jail guards watch.
24-year-old Terrence Wilson, was sentenced to 60 days for his part in the attack, something his attorney says is ridiculous.
“It first started with some friendly requests for him to convert to Islam and be a soldier of Islam, and my client was having none of it,” Paolo Giancaterino said. “It escalated to the point where threats were starting to be made that my client would be killed in his cell if he didn’t convert. That was followed up by another threat that my client’s family would be killed by someone on the outside if he didn’t convert.”
During the minute-long beating, guards are seen watching the fight for 35 seconds, something prison officials say was appropriate.
“Once you crack that door, you need to be able to control the situation or you might lose a wing (of the jail) or lose the whole place.”
