A new liquid being developed by Moratex Institute of Security Technology in Poland could revolutionize the way personal body armor is thought of.

Screen Shot 2015-05-01 at 9.27.16 AMThe company’s new product is a pourable liquid that, they say, stops bullets even better than kevlar.

Of course, if you put enough of a liquid between a bullet and its target, the round will be stopped. However, this isn’t a viable solution for wearable body armor. So, Moratex came up with a solution. Their secret ingredient is a non-Newtonian fluid.

The fluid has the properties of both a solid and a liquid. The fluid acts like a fluid under most circumstances, but when exposed to the forces of a gunshot, becomes a solid and captures the round. The fluid actually becomes even stronger the more powerful the round is that impacts it.

You may have seen this viral video a while back which shows non-Newtownian fluids in action:

Outside of bullet proofing technology, the fluid could also lead to advancements in sports protection gear, automotive safety and other areas.
