Protester or Terrorist? A Police Officer’s Point of View

AR-140819628Political Correctness Gone Awry

As the “protests” in Ferguson continue, the public statements being thrown around by the so-called protesters sound less and less like calls for justice and more and more like terrorist threats.  Initially, they claimed to want justice, but now those calls have turned to outright threats of murder and wholesale rioting.  Some of those threats can be seen here on Twitchy in a collection of statements sent out by various individuals, including more than a few people calling for the murder of cops.

Those threats of force and violence center on their desire to see Officer Darren Wilson pay for the shooting of Mike Brown.  And by pay, some want Officer Wilson imprisoned, but others are calling for his death.

Now, I’m no rocket scientist, but it seems to me in looking at the commonly accepted definition, that group of “protesters” has morphed into a group of terrorists.

As summarized on the National Institute of Justice’s website:

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) defines terrorism as “the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives.”

Looking back at what has happened, and is continuing to happen in Ferguson, the “protesters” have been doing exactly that.  They have rioted, looted, attacked officers and citizens alike, and continue to threaten further and expanded acts of violence all with the stated, specific intent to manipulate the outcome of the grand jury deliberation of the facts of the case.  They are not calling for justice, they are calling for Darren Wilson’s head on a platter.

What really bothers me is that it took some dumb street cop, thousands of miles away, to figure this out.  Is not the US Department of freaking Justice, the very same organization that wrote that definition of terrorism, at the scene investigating this whole situation?  Why are they not out arresting these individuals who are making these terrorist threats?

The bigger question however, is when are the people in local, state and federal government going to step up and denounce these actions loudly and publicly?  When are they going to begin arresting those responsible for inciting this behavior?  When are we all going to say enough is enough?

Heck, on Wednesday 10-22-14, protesters “invaded” the Ferguson Police Headquarters building and began marching and demonstrating inside.  In what reasonable world does that not equate to mass arrests?  Allowing this to continue is not helping matters, it is making them WORSE.  It is emboldening the “protesters” because they know they face no consequences for their actions.

Now comes the news that the protesters have issued a list of “Rules of Engagement”, or as I like to refer to it, their list of demands, which includes such things as cops cannot wear riot gear, should ignore “minor” violations such as throwing water bottles at the cops (assaulting an officer), tear gas and rubber bullets “will not be used”.  Seriously?  Who do these idiots think they are?

Political correctness has allowed this cancer to grow and spread.  The people in charge there appear unwilling to say anything the protesters do not want to hear because they are worried it might upset someone.  Hell, the police administrators have been marching with the protesters.  What is up with that?

I pray someone back there finds a spine before the grand jury verdict is released, because if those in charge allow this wound to fester much longer, I fear for everyone’s safety, and our future.
