An man who took multiple hostages at a 7-11 was shot and killed by SWAT officers following an hours long standoff. No hostages were wounded in the encounter.
The incident occurred last year and is making the rounds on social media again.
34-year-old Blas Leroux barricaded himself inside the convenience store with three hostages. After more than an hour of negotiations, he exited the store using one of the hostages as a human shield.
“The individual decided to come out holding a female hostage, at which time the officers told him to let the hostage go. He refused,” Denver Police Chief Robert White told reporters. “He then attempted to drag the female back in the store. Out of fear for the female’s safety, one of the officers fired one shot, striking the individual.”
“We heard a loud bang,” Flores said, “and saw the guy’s face just go back, like if there was a car accident and whiplash. After that, he didn’t move at all.”
Flores, who was holding his young son in his arms, said the incident left him shaken.
“We’re kind of scared and kind of shaking,” he said. “I’ve got chest pains just from seeing the actual shot go off. The guy just flew back and the girl took off running. It was kind of scary.”
Leroux was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died from his wounds.
