The best things and the worst things come out of Germany. It is a paradox proven throughout history. But we’re back on track with a good idea, as a German politician is openly flaunting all that is European and calling for the end of gun control.

It seems the massive influx of refugees has tipped the scales of Germany’s delicately balanced social utopia. There have been numerous crimes associated with the newcomers–thefts, rapes, even out-right terrorist attacks. And the German people have had enough. They want the right to defend themselves.
Best practices say the best way to defend yourself against someone with a gun is with your own gun. But that isn’t something the Germans are allowed to do. At least not right now.
That will change if the leader of the populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party gets her way.
“Many people are increasingly feeling unsafe. Every law-abiding citizen should be in a position to defend themselves, their family and their friends,” Frauke Petry told the Funke Media Group Saturday. “We all know how long it takes until the police can get to the scene, especially in sparsely populated places.”
The old response time argument. And valid it is. With a modest amount of training, Germans can cut response time from minutes to fractions of a second, and maybe even add a deterrent influence, too.
Petry isn’t acting alone. She’s got a growing constituency behind her.
More and more Germans are applying for “small firearms licenses”–which really doesn’t license much. Pepper spray, mostly. And flare guns. So if you’re being attacked or raped, just shoot up a flare.
There is a provision in the country for carrying actual firearms, but the people who get those licenses are typically security guards, or under direct threat. Kind of like California.
This should be a wake-up call for Angela Merkel. She keeps on accepting the agreements, and insists that it is the country’s responsibility to take them, despite vehement opposition from the German people.
