Republican nominee Donald Trump, in a Michigan speech Friday evening, abandoned the teleprompters for a brief moment, and the old Donald Trump came smashing back. He appealed to African-American voters and asked them to vote for him, saying “What the hell do you have to lose?”

To be fair, it wasn’t all blacks–just any black voter “who wants a better future.”

He’s been making the pitch all week. As race relations in this country devolve, what the hell does he have to lose? “I am asking for the vote of every African-American citizen struggling in our country today who wants a different future,” Trump said.

“The Democratic Party has failed and betrayed the African-American community.”

“Look at how much African-American communities have suffered under Democratic Control. To those hurting, I say: what do you have to lose by trying something new?”

The new he’s selling is, of course, Trump. And there’s some genuine meat on the bones of his argument. Many believe that the root of class struggles in this country are due to the influx of immigrant labor willing to work for less than America’s native workforce.

Trump’s assessment of the situation may be accurate, but his support within the African-American community is minuscule. In many of the polls, he’s pulling single digit numbers. Clinton consistently wins 90-95% of the black support.

Still, he isn’t letting up. “Hillary Clinton would rather provide a job to a refugee from overseas than to give that job to unemployed African-American youth in cities like Detroit who have become refugees in their own country.”

“The African-American community has given so much to this country. They’ve fought and died in every war since the Revolution. They’ve lifted up the conscience of our nation in the long march for Civil Rights,” Trump said. “They’ve sacrificed so much for the national good. Yet, nearly 4 in 10 African-American children still live in poverty, and 58 percent of young African-Americans are not working.”

Clinton, for her part, snapped back:

About Jackson Ford

Jackson Ford is not a car dealership in Mississippi. Actually it is a car dealership in Mississippi, but this isn't that Jackson Ford. This JF is a proud American, and he drives a Chevy.
